Over the past couple of weeks we’ve seen the number of new daily infections for COVID-19 in South Africa drop significantly.
While they were teetering around the mid to high 1k mark earlier this week, the latest statistics from the National Department of Health (NDoH) shows that the number of cases have picked up slightly.
More specifically the NDoH reports that 2 684 new infections have been reported for COVID-19, which now brings the total recorded to date to 615 701.
The same goes for the number of new fatalities, with 194 additional deaths reported by the NDoH. The department explains of the new 194, 57 are from KwaZulu-Natal, 61 from Gauteng, four from Northern Cape, 12 from Eastern Cape and 60 from Western Cape.
The number of fatalities in South Africa now sits at 13 502.
Still the recovery rate remains the only highlight that the NDoH can report, with 525 242 recoveries resulting in a recovery rate of 85 percent.
Just how long we’ll stay at this current level of new daily infections, remains to be seen.
