LG reveals its battery powered air purifying mask

In recent months we’ve seen South Korean firm LG debut some devices aimed at life in the COVID-19 era. This moist recently took the form of the ToneFree wireless earbuds, which featured a charging case that used UV light to disinfect the earphones. Now LG has revealed an air purifying face mask that’s also battery powered.

The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier as it is being called will be showcased by LG as one of its more interesting and innovative products at IFA 2020 next month. Said showcasing will be virtual of course, and LG will be allowing attendees for the event take a closer look at this air purifying mask online.

For now, it is not clear when precisely LG plans to launch the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, or indeed where, but the company says that it is expected to debut in selected markets in the fourth quarter of 2020.

As for how it works, the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier makes use of replaceable filters, much like you would find with a home air purifier.

As The Verge notes, the US Center for Diseace Control (CDC) advises against the use of face masks with exhalation ports, which is why LG have made its air purifying mask battery powered, in order filter the droplets that are expelled by the wearer to, as well as limiting harmful particles from being breathed in.

Said batteries are 820mAh units, and offer up to eight hours worth of battery life, according to LG.

It still remains to be seen how much the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier will cost. Had these been revealed at any other time, it may have been billed as overkill or gimmicky, but in the COVID-19 era, it just may have a market in some Southeast Asian countries.
