11th Gen Intel-sporting Swift 3 & Swift 5 notebooks revealed by Acer

IFA 2020, which has since chosen to be virtual for the most part as a result of COVID-19 is currently underway, has a number of companies announcing new hardware. One such firm was Acer, with the Taiwanese company being a regular fixture at IFA, and this year they revealed refreshed versions of the Swift 3 and Swift 5.

While that is not necessarily noteworthy on its own, these new notebooks do sport the recently unveiled 11th Gen Intel Core processors and are already earmarked for release in the EMEA region later this year.

Precise details as far as a local launch and pricing is still to come, but there are still enough details provided by Acer to pique our interest.

To that end, Acer will be launching the devices in EMEA come November, with more definitive South Africa information to be forthcoming closer to that time. While we await the official pricing, we have a general idea of what to expect, with the 14″ Swift 3 starting at €699 (~R13 807) and the Swift 5 at €1 099 (~R21 708).

So what are these newly refreshed notebooks packing?

Starting with the Swift 3, there are two flavours – a 14″ FullHD screen option and a 13.5″ 2K display variant.

Both models are svelte in terms of their design, as well as featuring SSD storage and up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM depending on the setup you opt for. Added to this will be i5 and i7 CPUs for the aforementioned 11th Gen, but it remains to be seen if both processors will be available as options locally.

There’s also Intel Iris Xe graphics, Thunderbolt 4 support and WiFi 6 functionality, all encased in a metal body.

Moving onto the Swift 5, there is only one option available as far as the display goes, with a 14″ FullHD screen up front. The notebook also boasts a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, so bezels have been kept to a minimum.

Intel i5 and i7 processor options will be made available, both of which will be compatible with Intel Evo. Eexpectedly, Intel Iris Xe graphics is onboard, along with an impressive claim from Acer of up to 17 hours worth of battery life. If true, it would make the new Swift 5 very tempting indeed.
