On Wednesday Eskom announced that it would have to increase the severity of loadshedding from Stage 2 to Stage 4 and that severity will persist on Thursday.

The utility states that multiple unit breakdowns as well as additional demand due to cold weather have forced its hand. Unfortunately, loadshedding looks to be a feature for the rest of the week.

“Loadshedding will persist throughout the week as Eskom teams work around the clock to return as many of these generation units to service as possible,” the utility said.

While Eskom managed to return some units to service on Wednesday, two additional generation units broke down.

With a full day of loadshedding at the rather inconvenient frequency of Stage 4 starting at 08:00 and running through to 22:00 we recommend checking your schedules online to prepare.

Alternatively the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones delivers notifications regarding loadshedding directly to your smartphone.
