No loadshedding until 16:00 on Tuesday

Despite bracing for another full day of loadshedding, Eskom has this morning announced that power cuts will only happen later in the day.

On Sunday Eskom warned South Africans to expect Stage 1 loadshedding in the morning and Stage 2 in the afternoon on Monday. This pattern was set to repeat itself until Tuesday.

However, early on Tuesday morning Eskom surprised us with a declaration that loadshedding would not be taking place for most of the day.

With that having been said, Eskom will implement Stage 1 loadshedding from 16:00.

“As some units have returned since last night, there will be no loadshedding [between] 08:00-16:00. However, please note that loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 1 from 16:00-22:00 tonight. Eskom will continue to communicate any changes to the supply situation,” the utility reported on Twitter on Tuesday.

For South Africans still working from home this news should come as a welcome reprieve from the daily powercuts we’ve experienced since last week Tuesday.

Eskom hasn’t revealed how well its generating capacity recovery is going but given the fact we won’t have loadshedding for the rest of the day, that’s good news.

To prepare for loadshedding later today, charge up your gadgets and we recommend checking your schedules online to prepare.

Alternatively the EskomSePush app for Android or iOS smartphones delivers notifications regarding loadshedding directly to your smartphone.
