Huawei debuts new FreeBuds Pro wireless earphones with dynamic noise cancelling

This afternoon Huawei held the Seamless Life AI Product Launch as part of its Developer Conference 2020, which kicked off earlier today. The Product Launch did not disappoint, with six new pieces of hardware being revealed by Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu. The first of these devices was the new FreeBuds Pro.

As you can likely tell from the name, these are designed as a competitor for Apple’s AirPod Pros, with Huawei adding new dynamic noise cancelling to these freshly minted offerings.

Featuring a design that seems to blend the elements of the FreeBuds 3 and 3i, the latter of which was recently made available in South Africa, Huawei confirms that the FreeBuds Pro will retail for a recommended €199 (~R3 953), which if we’re working on the current exchange rate, would place in the same bracket as the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live.

With Huawei Mobile SA yet to confirm local pricing and availability, we’ll have to wait to see how much the new wireless earphones cost.

For now we know that the aforementioned dynamic noise cancelling can handle up to 40 decibels, with support for Android, iOS and Windows devices. The latter aspect is rather interesting given a new feature called dual-device connectivity.

In the example video that Huawei showcased, the FreeBuds Pro could be paired with both a hybrid tablet and smartphone. You could be watching videos on a tablet, and when a phone call comes in, you can answer it seamlessly without having to fiddle with anything.

Huawei also says that this new iteration of wireless earphone is more comfortable than before, and will come with three separate ear nibs, to help with a better fit in-ear.
