Over the past couple of days we’ve seen the number of new daily infections for COVID-19 in South Africa return to the usual level recorded over the past two weeks. This as the past 24 hours has seen the National Department of Health (NDoH) record 2 007 new positive cases in the country.
South Africa’s total number of cases to date now sits at 644 438, so it may seem that the highs from a second wave a couple of months ago are under control, but another significant decrease is still some ways off.
Still, as it has done ever since the country went to level 2 lockdown, the NDoH is highlighting the recovery rate of SA. To that end there are a reported 573 003 recoveries to date, which translates to a recovery rate of 88.91 percent.
Having stayed in the high 80s all week, there is a chance that it climbs to 90 percent by next week.
While that would be good news, there is the increase of fatalities to worry about too. The total number of deaths now sits at 15 265, after 97 fatalities were recorded over the past 24 hours.
