Today is a day of homecomings in the videogame world. The Unfinished Swan breaks PlayStation exclusivity after eight years, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game will be available to buy again after six years.
As a quick recap for newcomers this game came out in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and was generally beloved for its pixel graphics, solid arcade beat-’em-up gameplay and a great soundtrack.
Unfortunately, in 2014, the game was delisted and has been unable to buy since then. The reason for it being taken off of digital shelves was licencing issues.
But now it’s back with a new name and for the current gen of hardware. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition will be available in the holiday season of 2020.
Despite coming out during the launch of the next generation of consoles, the game will be available on the previous gen PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. This is in addition to being released on the PC, Google Stadia and Uplay+.
“With the return of Scott Pilgrim, players will rediscover the beloved 2D arcade-style beat ’em up game, inspired by the iconic graphic novel series and 2010 Universal Pictures film. Fans will fall in love all over again with the 8-bit animation by Paul Robertson, critically acclaimed soundtrack from Anamanaguchi, and retro cut-scenes from Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World graphic novel series,” reads a press release sent to us.
As for why this is called a Complete Edition, it’s because it comes with the DLC characters Knives Chau and Wallace Wells.
While this is great news for new and returning players something many have been asking for is a physical release so that people can own the game indefinitely should it be removed from digital stores again.
At the time of writing nothing has been said about it from publisher Ubisoft who announced the Complete Edition as part of the September 2020 Ubisoft Forward event.
