COVID-19 in South Africa: 14th September

As the temperature continues to climb and the power grid begins to stabilise, many in the country may start to think that things will soon be returning back to normal. This is far from the case, however, as we still find ourselves in level 2 lockdown, as the number of cases for COVID-19 in South Africa creeps up.

To that end, the past 24 hours has seen 1 579 new cases being reported by the National Department of Health (NDoH). This brings the total number of cases for the country to date to 649 793.

With the aforementioned temperatures rising, and people naturally wanting to be outside socialising, the NDoH continues to warn to observe level 2 regulations.

Looking at the number of fatalities, these too have regrettably increased, with 20 new deaths reported by the NDoH. As such the number of deaths resulting from COVID-19 in South Africa to date now sits at 15 447.

Thankfully the recovery rate remains high, with it currently at 88.9 percent according to the NDoH, as 577 906 recoveries have been registered to date.

With it believed President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the action later this week to announce a move to lockdown level 1, it remains to be seen what regulations at that level would entail, as well as what impact this will have on the daily infection rate.
