Halo 3: ODST arrives in the Master Chief Collection next week

The Master Chief Collection – which finally gives PC players a way to play Halo natively – will be updated with Halo 3: ODST come 22nd September. That’s exactly a week from now.

“Now optimized for PC, experience the events preceding Halo 3 through the eyes of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) as they return to familiar ground and attempt to uncover the motivations behind the Covenant’s invasion of New Mombasa. Isolated and vulnerable, use stealth and precision to survive the dangers of the Covenant occupation in a gripping new take on combat in the Halo universe,” reads the official description of the game.

That PC optimisation includes 4K @ 60FPS support just like the other four Halo games released so far, as well as ultrawide support, FOV tweaking and other PC-centric settings we’ve come to expect from these solid ports.

ODST is the fifth of six games which make up the Master Chief Collection. It will join Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 3. After it launches next week only Halo 4 will remain as the sole unreleased remaster of the collection. Given the spacing between these releases it’s likely that we’ll see 4 before 2020 is over.

What should have been the newest Halo game, Infinite, has been delayed into 2021. This means no new Halo for the holiday period which coincides with the release of the next generation of consoles. Replaying older games from the series will have to suffice.

Halo 3: ODST and the Master Chief Collection are available on Steam and the Microsoft Store. The games can be bought separately or you can pick up the collection to have access to everything. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass also get access without the need for any additional purchases together with other games such as Destiny 2, Vermintide 2, Company of Heroes 2 and more.
