As the country waits to hear from President Cyril Ramaphosa on a potential move to lockdown level 1, the latest statistics for COVID-19 in South Africa look promising. This as the National Department of Health (NDoH) recorded a relatively low 772 new cases over the past 24 hours.
The previous day saw 956 new cases being added to the total, so there may be a declining trend starting, but it is too early to tell at this stage.
Following the latest recorded numbers, the total amount of infections for South Africa to date now sits at 651 521, with 583 126 recoveries also having been reported. This translates to a recovery rate of 89.5 percent, with the NDoH continuing to point to the figure as a positive for the country given the circumstances.
Unfortunately 142 additional fatalities have also been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa now at 15 641.
Of the new fatalities, the NDoH says 16 are from KwaZulu-Natal, 12 from Gauteng, four from the Eastern Cape, 13 from the Western Cape, 11 from the Northern Cape, 19 from Mpumalanga and 67 from Limpopo.
