As the country readies to enter alert level 1 lockdown come midnight on 20th September, there has been the slightest of increases in terms of the number of new daily infections for COVID-19 in South Africa.
To that end the National Department of Health (NDoH) has recorded 2 128 new cases of the past 24 hours, which is the highest total so far this week. This brings the total number of cases for the country to date to 655 572, with 585 303 recoveries recorded at the time of writing too.
As such, the recovery rate for COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 89.28 percent, with it lingering around the same mark for the past couple of days.
Along with the new infections, the NDoH also recorded 67 new fatalities, bringing the country’s total number of deaths to date to 15 772.
With similar numbers across the different categories being reported over the past two weeks, it still remains to be seen how the move to alert level 1 will impact the statistics.
