Earlier today Samsung held a live stream to unveil a new product under the theme “For Every Fan”. While we initially believed this alluded to a new lineup of A Series smartphones, we actually got something aimed at the premium mid-range space as the South Korean firm introduced the Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition).

This new device is much like the S20 we saw unveiled toward the beginning of the year, but as Samsung explains the Galaxy S20 FE features all the “most loved” components and specifications that fans of the brand crave.

So what have Samsung’s fans “picked” here?

Up front is a 6.5″ FullHD+ display, armed with a 2400×1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and central punch hole to house the selfie camera. Speaking of which the front facing option is a 32MP shooter, with a trio of lenses housed on the rear – 12MP wide-angle, 12MP utra-wide and 8MP telephoto.

Looking internally, a 7nm octa-core processor is powering the S20 FE, but the precise nature of the silicon has not been disclosed. That said there looks to be two flavours, which likely means both Qualcomm and Samsung’s in-house Exynos variants will be found here depending on the region.

There’s also 6GB and 8GB RAM options, with up to 256GB storage depending on the model. Added to this is dual SIM slot capability, support for 5G, 4 500mAh battery and a kaleidoscope of colours as you can see in the header image above.

Which options will be made available in South Africa remains to be seen, as is the local availability and pricing. For now though, the Galaxy S20 FE is expected in selections regions from 2nd October, with it carrying a $699 (~R11 927) price tag.

If Samsung Mobile South Africa can keep this model as close to R12k as possible, they could have a nice premium device on its hands. How those consumers who recently purchased the standard Galaxy S20 or S20 Ultra will feel though, remains to be seen.
