How to sign up for Unisa’s campus booking system

Under the lockdown level 1 regulations the University of South Africa (Unisa) is opening its campuses to allow students to make use of its facilities.

In an effort to keep everyone involved safe the university recently outlined a five-step plan to ensure proper safety measures such as social distancing, capacity control and an app to book appointments.

When the above announcement was made the app had not been rolled out, but that has changed as of today. While that’s technically true we’re not sure why Unisa has used the term “app” here as the campus access portal is simply a website.

Regardless, here are the steps to register:

  1. Go to http://www.unisa.ac.za/access
  2. Click on “Sign Up” in the top right corner
  3. Enter your Unisa-assigned @mylife email address, a username and a password
  4. Click on the submit button
  5. Open the email client attached to your @mylife email address and click on the activation link.

You will now be able to sign into the access portal in the future, but please take note of one very important foible here: your chosen password should be new and not related to the existing password you have for myUnisa.

Being a Unisa student does not automatically register you for the campus portal, and it’s poor security practice to reuse your password.

As always, when signing up for anything, we recommend reading the terms and conditions. This is no different and Unisa has published a set of these which can be read here.

These Ts and Cs seem to be a simple boilerplate that the university has been using since 2019, but we still recommend looking them over. If you’re studying law consider it a bit of extra homework.
