People across the globe are unable to access emails on Microsoft Outlook

If you are struggling to access your emails on Microsoft Outlook today, you’re not the only one, as issues have been reported with the service in several other parts of the globe.

Whether it be Outlook on a browser, notebook or smartphone, there seems to be unknown issue with the platform that is impacting people’s ability to access their emails. According to The Verge, the problem, or rather the acknowledgement of it by Microsoft, first happened around 8:00 this morning, with the company issuing a tweet in that respect.

At the time of writing, the issue still persists, with Microsoft’s own Service Status portal noting that access to emails in particular is not available on Outlook.

Precisely what is causing the issue, remains unknown at this stage, but naturally the company is looking into it. “We’re collecting additional data from the affected infrastructure to aid in our investigation to determine the cause of impact,” Microsoft explained in a statement.

While we have not noted any issues within our own team, a check on Down Detector in South Africa says that users are indeed experiencing problems with Outlook locally.

The first report was made just after 7:00 in the morning here, with the most reported problems being the website itself (43 percent), logging in (32 percent) and receiving messages (24 percent), according to Down Detector.

The next update on the situation is expected to happen at 11:00 local time, before this story is published, so hopefully the problem has been identified and fixed by then.

As for whether Microsoft will disclose what the error is, remains to be seen.
