Having kept track of the statistics related to COVID-19 in South Africa for some months now, we’ve noticed a few trends, with one of them being the ramping up of new daily infections as the week progresses.
It looks like the same is about to pan out this week, as the National Department of Health (NDoH) has reported that 926 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. This pushes the country’s total number of infections to date to 682 215, with 615 684 recoveries also being noted.
The latter means the current recovery rate remains at 90 percent. Whether it will shift from this mark in coming days, is unclear, with it having held steady around this figure for some time now.
While the recovery rate remains high, South Africa has unfortunately passed a new mark when it comes to fatalities, with the number of deaths related to COVID-19 now sitting at 17 016.
This as 40 new fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours, but at the time of writing a fully detailed report from the NDoH does not confirm which provinces account for the new fatalities.
