Those Hot Pursuit Remastered rumours were true

Back in mid-August we reported on some rumours that a remaster of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit was in the works. Those rumours have now been confirmed as publisher EA has officially announced the new version of this older title.

The unoriginal name for the game is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered and a website set up for it states that it will be available on 6th November for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch port will come a little later on 13th November.

The Switch version coming a little later isn’t as puzzling as the lack of support for next-gen consoles. The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 both launch in November, so releasing an old favourite close to the release of these consoles with no support for them seems very odd.

In terms of what the remaster is offering, EA is touting crossplay, Autolog, extra content, plus DLC and better graphics.

“Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered delivers a timeless racing experiance updated for today’s generation of hardware with enhanced visuals. Get all additional main DLC delivered at launch including an extra six hours of gameplay and more than 30 challenges,” reads the description of the game.

To show off those visuals and the Autolog aspect we have a reveal trailer embedded below.

It really doesn’t make much sense because, how does main character (blond hair guy) compete in the game if he doesn’t already own a copy? Did his rival buy him another copy as a weird taunting technique? Is it an art house piece that isn’t shown in chronological order?

The gameplay we see in the trailer also doesn’t look very remastered. It still looks very much like a 2010 game, but maybe things will look a bit better when we’re actually playing.
