Under alert level 1 lockdown, it seems like many people in the country are trying to go about their lives as normal, where regulations allow of course. As for the latest statistics with regard to COVID-19 in South Africa, the past 24 hours has seen 1 027 new cases being recorded by the National Department of Health (NDoH).
As such, it still remains to be seen how the move to a lower level of lockdown has impacted the daily infection rate locally, especially as there are fears that a rushed “return to normal” may cause another large wave in infections.
For now though, we need to wait to see, and adhere to regulations as outlined by government.
Sticking with the number of cases in SA to date, that figure now sits at 683 242, with 616 857 recoveries reported too. This translates to a recovery rate of 90.28 percent, which is a level it as been hovering around for some time. As for the number of tests processed to date, the NDoH confirms that it is currently 4 294 931.
Unfortunately 87 new fatalities have been recorded by the department as well over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths related to the pandemic to 17 103.
