Microsoft reveals 30 games optimised for Xbox Series X / S on launch

With the new generation of consoles less than a month away, Microsoft has revealed a list of 30 games that have been optimised to run on the Xbox Series X / Xbox Series S.

A quick side note about these terrible names: the blog post announcing the list of games refers to the new Microsoft consoles in a combined manner as “Xbox Series X|S”. It’s still kinda odd, but let’s roll with it for now.

On 10th November the games that will “look and play best” on the Xbox Series X|S are:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Smart Delivery)
  • Borderlands 3 (Smart Delivery)
  • Bright Memory 1.0
  • Cuisine Royale (Smart Delivery)
  • Dead by Daylight (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
  • DIRT 5 (Smart Delivery)
  • Enlisted
  • Evergate
  • The Falconeer (Smart Delivery)
  • Fortnite
  • Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Gears 5 (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Gears Tactics (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Grounded (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • King Oddball (Smart Delivery)
  • Maneater (Smart Delivery)
  • Manifold Garden (Smart Delivery)
  • NBA 2K21
  • Observer: System Redux
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Planet Coaster (Smart Delivery)
  • Sea of Thieves (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • Tetris Effect: Connected (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • The Touryst (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery)
  • War Thunder (Smart Delivery)
  • Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition
  • Watch Dogs: Legion (Smart Delivery)
  • WRC 9 FIA World Rally Championship (Smart Delivery)
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Smart Delivery)
  • Yes, Your Grace (Smart Delivery)

If you’re completely new to the Xbox scene and are thinking about joining in with Microsoft with the Series X|S, those terms in the brackets warrant some explanation.

Smart Delivery is the system where buying a game on the older Xbox One ecosystem will unlock it on the Series X|S. This is more intended for current owners of Xbox One consoles as it essentially unlocks multiple copies of the game across generations for one purchase.

Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s rather excellent subscription service where you pay a flat fee per month and get access to 100+ games which you can play whenever and however you like.

Looking at the list of games there’s really nothing too special. It’s a rather expected list of older titles brought to the new-gen combined with a few new faces.

While there are actually man, many more games available on the Series X|S through backwards compatibility, the 30 above are those which have had extra work put into them to function better on the new hardware, and will be available on the release date of the console, the aforementioned 10th November.
