Ask Destiny 2 players what they want from the game and they will provide a simple list of 20 or so features and improvements they have in mind.

Way at the top of that list for many players, however, is a request for Bungie to really deal with cheaters. At the weekend, that request was actioned, sort of.

Purveyor of cheating software, Perfect Aim which paraded a “game-changing hack for Destiny 2”, was sent a cease and desist order by Bungie at the weekend.

“A claim has been made by Bungie Inc suggesting that this product violates the game’s license agreement. Furthermorem a demand was made that we cease and desist from selling this product,” reads a notice on the Perfect Aim website.

“We won’t comment on whether these claims are justified or not, but we have decided to comply with this demand regardless. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers,” Perfect Aim wrote.

Among the cheats offered by Perfect Aim, one could instantly respawn upon death, fly around the map, sea through walls and of course, have perfect aim.

Unfortunately, Bungie’s cease and desist is only for Bungie’s game, so Perfect Aim’s cheats for other games are unaffected, at least for now.

This doesn’t even take into account the many other cheating services that are out there but Perfect Aim is among the most popular.

And that highlights the elephant in the room with this news – Bungie has to implement a better anti-cheat solution.

For the last year we’ve largely ignored the problem with cheaters mainly because of the free nature of Destiny 2 as of time of writing.

On 10th November with the launch of Beyond Light, the amount of free content will dwindle and the push to get more people to pay to play is obvious at this point. However, if Bungie really wants players to part ways with their cash, there can’t be a section of the game (PvP) that is so unplayable because of cheaters nobody enters it.

While this cease and desist is good news, we’re not calling it the solution to Destiny’s cheater problem. For that, cheaters really just need to stop cheating in one of the easier games out there.
