Acer and Porsche Design team up for new carbon fibre covered notebook

If you know Porsche Design, you’ll know that the company has a very specific aesthetic when it comes to creating products. You’ll also know that the design firm is fond of collaborating with technology companies. We’ve spotted some of their works with Huawei in the past, and now we have a collaborative effort with Acer.

The companies revealed the new Acer Book RS at the Next@Acer event earlier today, this new device is billed as an ultra premium offering.

We are delighted to kick-off this partnership with the new Porsche Design Acer Book RS that embodies the DNA of our brand to the core and sets new standards in performance and design,” noted Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche Design Group regarding the collaboration.

The fruit of an exciting partnership between Acer and Porsche Design, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS, is a perfect blend of style and performance for urban mobile professionals. It brings together Acer’s expertise in technology and Porsche Design’s design prowess, resulting in a refined product that not only has timeless aesthetics, but also exceptional performance under the hood,” added Jerry Kao, Co-COO of Acer.

So what is this new device sporting?

Well a compact all-metal and minimal design for one, with a carbon fibre cover topping off the chassis of the Acer Book RS. This means the body is quite lightweight, with Acer noting that it is 1.25kg, making it lighter than some of the Spin and Swift notebooks. It’s relatively thin too, at 15.99mm.

Internally an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU are doing the heavy lifting. It has also been co-engineered by Intel and certified for the Evo platform. Added to this 16GB of RAM, a 14″ FullHD antimicrobial display and 90 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Acer says the Book RS’ battery can last up to 17 hours, and caters to fast charging, which can deliver four hours of battery life after 30 minutes of charging. There’s dual-band WiFi 6 support and ports aplenty, including USB Type C, Thunderbolt 4 and USB3.2 Gen 2.

Porsche Design has also created an accompanying mouse and travel pack, which can be purchased with the Acer Book RS, starting at EUR €2 399.

The standalone Acer Book RS is expected in EMEA starting at €1 799, but no word on local pricing and availability at this stage. As such, this might be one that skips South Africa, but we’ll share any details if it is being launched here.
