Image artifact sends Destiny 2 community on a wild-goose chase, again

History has taught Destiny 2 players that nothing is really as simple as it seems on the surface.

The Whisper and Zero Hour missions are perfect examples of this with players having to look closely at the world around them to unlock and solve secrets in the game.

Something else Bungie is rather good at is developing puzzles for the community to solve, and then not saying anything about said puzzle.

This means that at times, Destiny 2 players can head out on a wild-goose chase for nothing.

Case in point, the image below.

That image comes from a 4K image of the Destiny 2: Beyond Light key-art. If you head to this link and zoom in on the top left hand corner you will be able to see it for yourself.

Reddit user /u/ripcoll7 was busy making a dual-monitor wallpaper when they discovered the image above and posted it to Destiny puzzle-solving sub-Reddit, /r/RaidSecrets. It was here that the post blew-up.

Very quickly folks started applying lore pieces to the “maze” with many pointing to The Flower Game, a piece of lore from the Unveiling lorebook being seemingly related.

This was then turned into a binary grid by user ashiswin and then run through an implementation of the aforementioned Flower Game.

After running the binary code through the Flower Game and repeating it seven times, the GIF below was created.

Things were looking good until Bungie community manager Chris “Cozmo23” Shannon stepped in.

“Hey friends. I hate to be the fun police here but this was just an artifact caused by some compression we did of the image. We are looking into fixing the issue that caused this so thanks for pointing it out. We didn’t want you wasting your talents on a glitch on our end,” Shannon wrote on Reddit.

“It did kind of look like a maze though,” the community manager added.

A bit of a let down in the end but to be fair we think Bungie would have to be absolutely crazy to have a puzzle the community has to solve before Beyond Light launches and not give any indication that something is yet to be discovered.

With that having been said there is definitely a “secret” in Destiny 2 that is yet to be uncovered.

Beyond Light Collector’s Editions being delivered to players this week and there is currently an ARG game taking place in Destiny 2 though it appears to be time-gated until 5th November. It’s possible this is just an emblem as a reward but we cannot say.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light launches on 10th November on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam and Stadia.
