Sesame Street LEGO arrives in November

LEGO has revealed its latest set simply called 123 Sesame Street, which brings the famous puppet-based show into the world of building bricks.

With 1 367 pieces this set will sell for £109.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 overseas when it launches on 1st November. Here in South Africa our prices are usually closer to the British Pound price which, when converted, is about R2 337 at the time of writing.

Or at least it would be. LEGO is set to get a massive price increase in the country come November. This set will likely be closer to R3 000 once it arrives in South Africa.

So what are you getting for all that money? There are minifigures representing Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie. Oscar the Grouch is also included but he’s less of a minifigure and more of a small build.

Those figures represent a small part of the 1 367 pieces included in the set. The rest are used to build 123 Sesame Street itself.

The build here is broken into two buildings: one being the large New York brownstone and the other Hooper’s Store. Both, as expected, are packed with details from the show.

Unfortunately these buildings are a façade, with the backs and most of the sides being open. This is to facilitate looking into the set to see the details – and for the sake of play – but it does mean that the set isn’t 100% complete.

According to this announcement, once assembled, the set measures in at 24 X 35 X 21 centimetres (height X width X depth).

Strangely enough this set also is rated for those aged 18 and up. This is less about the nature of the box’s contents and more about the difficulty of the build, though LEGO usually sets these way too high. The age rating does make sense, however, as this set is targeting adults who have nostalgia for the show… and a lot of money to spare.

123 Sesame Street, LEGO code 21324, is also a set from LEGO Ideas, a programme where fan creations go through a process to become retail products.
