Gigabyte has released BIOS update to support AMD 5000 CPUs

A little over a week from now AMD will launch its latest range of Ryzen processors, the Ryzen 5000 series.

The headline chip in the line-up is the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X which will carry a monstrous TDP of 105W but will boost to 4.9GHz when needed.

AMD is not done yet with the firm set to unveil its AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs later this week.

But today we have news for system builders looking to take advantage of Team Red’s new CPUs. As AMD isn’t updating its chipset for Ryzen 5000, you will be able to use an existing AM4+ motherboard though it will require a BIOS update.

Gigabyte has announced that a BIOS update for motherboards with the AMD X570, B550 and A520 chipsets.

“Users can update their motherboards’ BIOS by their familiar methods, such as @BIOS or Q-Flash. They can even utilise the Q-Flash Plus feature to update the BIOS without installing any processor, memory or even graphics card, making it possible for users to enjoy the benefits brought about by the new BIOS core and processors,” said Gigabyte.

For those who are using motherboards with the AMD X470 or B450 chipsets, Gigabyte says it is working on a BIOS update to support Ryzen 5000 CPUs.
