Earlier this week President Cyril Ramaphosa refuted nationwide rumours claiming that the country would be moving back to a hard lockdown. That said, we’re still fighting the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa, with the latest numbers from the National Department of Health (NDoH) showing that things are steady, but not declining.
To that end the NDoH reports that 1 863 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of infections to date to 719 714.
The department also confirms that 648 654 recoveries have been recorded, translating to a recovery rate of 90 percent, which too has remained at the same level for a number of weeks now.
The NDoH has unfortunately reported that 58 new fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the country’s total number of deaths related to COVID-19 now sitting at 19 111.
