As we past the midway point in what has been another swelteringly hot week in the country, the National Department of Health (NDoH) has issued another daily update for COVID-19 in South Africa.
The new figures show that 2 055 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is the first time we’ve the number surpass the 2k mark in quite some time. Consequently, it pushes the total number of cases in the country to date to 708 359, with 641 706 recoveries having also been recorded by the NDoH.
The latter figure translates to a recovery rate of 90 percent, which it has been for some time, and currently shows no signs of increasing.
Unfortunately, 85 new fatalities have been added to the country’s total number of deaths related to COVID-19, which now sits at 18 741. At the time of writing, the NDoH has not detailed which provinces account for the new numbers.
