Microsoft Surface Go 2 now available in SA, starting at R8 999

By now you should know that Microsoft has officially brought its Surface-branded devices to South Africa, but instead of flooding the market with hardware, the company has taken a more measured approach. As such, only two devices have been launched locally to date, but now we have a third – the Surface Go 2.

This tablet convertible as we like to class it, is designed with portability in mind. It can also be used in a few different ways given its 10.5″ touch display, as well as its ability to operate as a tablet or propped up and connected to a smart keyboard for a regular notebook setup.

In terms of performance, this is not in the powerhouse category of some of the other Surface convertibles, but Microsoft will be making two specs available – one with an Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y and the other with an 8th Gen Intel Core m3 processor.

There’s also Intel UHD Graphics 615 on offer, as well as 4GB and 8GB RAM flavours. Added to this is a choice of a 64GB eMMC for storage or a 128GB SSD. For video calling, a 5MP front facing option is present, with the rear featuring an 8MP variant, with both offering up HD visuals. In terms of battery life, Microsoft says the Surface Go 2 can muster up to 10 hours.

As such, if you’re looking for a workhorse, you’re better off looking at some of the other Surface devices. It seems then that the Surface Go 2 is designed for younger users, and in particular those upgrading from a simple tablet experience to something a little richer and productivity-focused.

“We’re excited to expand our Surface family with the addition of Surface Go 2 – our smallest and lightest two-in-one laptop. Its compact design and the versatility of a touchscreen and keyboard will appeal to businesses, schools, students and families,” notes Vithesh Reddy, consumer and channel marketing director at Microsoft SA.

The Microsoft Surface Go 2 launches today locally, starting at R8 999 (RRP), with Incredible Connection and Vodacom listed as the first retailers to stock it.
