Apple will host an event next week dedicated to “One More Thing”

Last week when AMD revealed its Radeon RX 6000 GPUs we thought we’d be done with launch events but Apple has more to say in 2020.

Next week on 10th November, Apple will host yet another event, this one bearing the title “One More Thing”, a reference to a phrase tech CEOs have adopted when they have one more product to show off.

So what could Apple be showing off?

Given that we’ve seen the new Apple Watch, iPads and iPhones, that leaves new Macs.

What would make this launch event notable is if Apple is showing off a Mac powered by its own silicon.

At its WWDC Conference in June the Cupertino Colossus announced that it would be ditching Intel in favour of ARM-based chips it would design.

This move gives Apple the same sort of control over production of its notebooks and desktops that it has over its iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and AirPods.

Will it work?

That is going to be the question this “One More Thing” event will have to answer. Will Apple be able to woo professionals and creatives over to its notebooks once again without Intel powered machines? We aren’t so sure.

For a regular person using a Mac to stream video or cycle through holiday photos, a new ARM-based Mac might not be a big deal. For professionals however, taking a risk on unproven technology is a big gamble.

Sure, we don’t think Apple is going to release a lemon but when it’s worth remembering that no CEO has ever come on stage and said “Eh, our product is alright”.

Needless to say, the “One More Thing” event is going to be interesting so join us on 10th November at 20:00.
