COVID-19 in South Africa: 3rd November

As has been the case in recent weeks, the reports from the National Department of Health (NDoH) regarding COVID-19 in South Africa show relatively low new infection numbers at the beginning of the week, before steadily ramping up by the end.

The same appears to be happening this week, with only 772 new cases being reported over the past 24 hours. This sees the country’s total number of infections to date rise to 727 595, with 657 500 recoveries also being reported.

If you’ve been reading this daily reports frequently, you’ll know that the recovery rate remains at 90 percent, and whether it will ever increase from that level, remains to be seen.

As for testing, the NDoH says more than 4.85 million tests have been conducted to date.

Unfortunately, 54 new fatalities have also been reported, bringing the total to 19 465 in terms of deaths related to the virus in SA.

Of the new 54, the NDoH confirms that 24 are from the Eastern Cape, 13 from the Free State, one from KwaZulu-Natal, two from Limpopo, one from Mpumalanga, nine from the Northern Cape and four from the Western Cape.
