Nutanix helped keep STANLIB chugging along during hard lockdown

For many large firms the shift to working from home has been an eye-opening experience.

Within a matter of days plans had to be spun up to keep companies running while navigating travel restrictions for non-essential workers.

For STANLIB this meant finding a practical solution that kept employees safe by letting them work from home. The problem here however is that because it operates in the financial services sector, security was a priority for STANLIB.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic began spreading however, STANLIB had pushed 95 percent of its production environment to run on the Nutanix platform.

This gave the firm an edge when it needed to implement work from home capabilities.

“We did not have to reinvent the wheel but rather identify how best to introduce new nodes to expand on our current capability. Ease of use and scalability were key considerations. Additionally, the ability to run Citrix as securely as possible given the governance requirements around data management had to be ensured throughout the process,” explains technology and information security officer at STANLIB, Dipesh Nagar.

STANLIB increased the number of nodes in its Nutanix environment from 20 to 26. All nodes are running Acropolis Ultimate Edition including Prism Central while now also having Citrix solutions in place.

This has helped simplify STANLIB’s IT systems but also helps to secure them.

More than that though, users at STANLIB still have millisecond access to their applications.

“Nutanix has positioned us strongly to evolve as the world changes and to be able to meet any changes in an agile manner. This enables STANLIB to deliver high-quality customer service irrespective of what is happening in terms of the lockdown. While it is difficult to predict what the future work environment will look like once we have moved past the COVID-19 pandemic, using Nutanix has given STANLIB the peace of mind we need that we can reliably and securely meet any requirement,” added Nagar.

All of this is supported by secure access to STANLIB resources and applications. Even better, employees are able to access their work no matter their location or device thanks to the ability to give those employees the right degree of access from within the Nutanix environment.

“The speed of completion and the agility with which it was done stands as a testament to the importance STANLIB place on IT functioning as a business enabler. They are one of only a few financial services companies that were able to effect this change as quickly as they did and as a result, ensure business continuity throughout the lockdown,” said regional sales director at Nutanix sub-Saharan Africa, Paul Ruinaard.
