Tesla’s $250 bottle of tequila is sold out

Back in 2018 Elon Musk joked about a product he called “Teslaquilla” as part of an April Fool’s Day joke about Tesla going bankrupt.

Thankfully for Musk, Tesla trundles along to this day and this week “Teslaquilla” became a real product that you could buy.

Now, as you might be aware, in order for a drink to be classified as tequila, it must be sourced from Blue Agave grown in certain regions of Mexico.

The tequila in Telsa’s bottle is produced by Nosotros Tequila which says, “We sustainably source half of our agaves from the highlands of Jalisco and half from the lowlands.”

Jalisco is one of the regions from where Blue Agave used for tequila is sourced.

But we think that most will be buying Tesla Tequila (as it is now officially known), is for the striking lightning bolt shaped bottle.

And at $250 (~R3 947) including shipping this is a rather pricey bottle of tequila but then it is from an authentic source and you get a sexy display stand.

As the headline states, this tequila is already sold out and delivery is expected to take place in “late 2020” at which point we suspect eBay and other marketplaces will be filled with those trying to sell the bottles at higher prices.

It’s unlikely that there will be a rerun of this product but to ease the blow slightly, Tesla Tequila was only available to purchase in certain states in the US.

The choice to sell tequila is an odd one, especially for a vehicle manufacturer. While Tesla does have Autopilot, it’s probably not a good idea to rely on it should you plough through this bottle of tequila.

We’re a lot more interested in something else Elon Musk tweeted recently – catgirl robots.

We have no idea what they are or what they would do but it has the words “cat” and “robot” so we’re interested.
