Apple’s new M1 powered MacBooks start at R19999 in South Africa

Earlier this week Apple announced its new M1 silicon as well as two notebooks and a Mac Mini powered by the new chipsets.

The notebooks and Mac Mini are currently available for pre-order over on the iStore but we’ve been experiencing connectivity woes all morning while trying to access the website.

iStore has two flavours of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air up for pre-order namely a 256GB iteration and a 512GB iteration. Each of the MacBooks also only offers up 8GB of unified memory. That means that despite the new M1 chip offering support for up to 16GB of memory, South Africans will only have access to 8GB for now.

The Mac Mini also comes in 256GB and 512GB variants but again you will only have access to 8GB of unified memory.

Pricing for each of the devices follows on below.

Device Price of 256GB Price for 512GB Colours
MacBook Air R19 999 R24 999 Silver and Space Grey
MacBook Pro R25 999 R29 999 Silver and Space Grey
Mac Mini R13 999 R17 999 Silver

Both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are only available in 13inch iterations at least for now.

Curiously, iStore is yet to reveal pricing for the iPhone 12 series which was announced a month ago to the day. This particularly noteworthy as the US, UK, Japan, Australia, China and Germany have had the devices available since 23rd October. Even India and South Korea have had the device since 30th October.

For now though, at least you can dive into new Apple tech with its new M1 processors, if you’re feeling up to the risk.
