No WandaVision in 2020. Release day scheduled for 15th January

Those hoping to cap off the year with the first true MCU show WandaVision will be disappointed as an official release date has been provided for the start of the show, and it’s 15th January 2021.

This news comes to us from the official WandaVision Twitter accounts which has tweeted a sparse four times since being created in 2019.

It’s been used to provide the first trailer and poster in September, and and again a few days ago to show off the cover for Entertainment Weekly.

Now today we’ve got the release date announcement and a short vertical video.

“The series is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems,” reads the official description of the show.

This new video doesn’t really reveal much about the show itself except the stinger at the end with the date.

It continues to trend of WandaVision’s theme in which the titular pair will go through the history of TV and its various styles throughout the show. This is perhaps better illustrated in the old trailer, embedded below.

As always we’re sticking with out theory that Wanda Maximoff puts this show into motion using her powers from the Mindstone. Many people share the belief that this show will take place in some alternate dimension (or entirely in Maximoff’s mind).

This would make the show similar to the famous House of M comicbook arc in which Maximoff creates her own universe to deal with trauma (which we won’t spoil). The Elizabeth Olsen MCU version of this character certainly experienced her fair share of trauma in Infinity War and Endgame, so the impetus is certainly there.

For now, just like everyone else, we’ll need to wait for next year to see more.

Between now and 15th January we hope that Disney Plus – the only place to legally watch WandaVision – expands to more countries including South Africa.
