As we count the days until the holiday/festive season begins, many across the country are keeping a close eye on the daily infection rate for COVID-19 in South Africa. None more so than the National Department of Health (NDoH), which shared its latest numbers for the spread of the virus last night.
To that end, the NDoH reports that 1 842 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours, with the situation in the Eastern Cape getting particular attention, as more a greater number of fatalities are recorded in that region each day.
As such, the President’s calls for South Africans to remain vigilant under the new lockdown level 1 regulations, need to be adhered to if the country is going to get through the festive season without a second wave of infections.
For now, the total number of infections to date sits at 751 024, but oddly no update on the number of tests conducted so far, as has usually been the case in the NDoH’s reports. The department has, however, shared, the number of recoveries, which is currently 693 467.
This translates to a recovery rate of 92.3 percent, which is a level it remained at throughout all of last week.
