SoundCloud adds verified badges to highlight its top artists

In the digital age, SoundCloud has replaced the mix CDs that would-be artists hawked on the side of the road to gain exposure. While that has meant an up-and-coming artist only needed a notebook and reliable internet connection to make a name for themselves, not all SoundCloud rappers are created equal.

It is why the music platform recently announced new verified badges, which will highlight its top artists.

“SoundCloud is rolling out profile verification. Official blue checkmarks will now show up in search and on profiles of verified creators,” confirms a blog post about the announcement.

“We’re doing this to help well-known artists stand out and maintain their authenticity, and to help listeners identify these artists more easily,” it adds.

Another reason for the addition of blue check verification badges, is that the previous orange Pro subscriber badge for profiles was abused in some cases, misrepresenting the authenticity of an artist’s credentials or popularity.

“Official blue checkmarks will help eliminate that confusion. Rest assured, if you’re a Pro subscriber your status remains the same. As a bonus, Pro Unlimited users who apply for verification will also be first in line,” SoundCloud explains.

The likes of Billie Eilish, Wiz Khalifa (pictured in header) and Trippie Redd have all earned the status, and throughout the course of the day, SoundCloud will be revealing more artists who have earned the blue check verification badge. These artists are also said to have been active on the platform since its early days.

You can head over to the platform’s official Instagram account to see the reveals.
