Where is the local launch of the Apple iPhone 12?

Local Apple fans hoping to get their hands on a new iPhone 12 have been left in the lurch with no information about a local launch of the new smartphones.

The iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are Apple’s first smartphones that tout 5G functionality and both were announced during Apple’s Hi, Speed event on 13th October.

In the US the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro was available for pre-order from 16th October with devices becoming available on 23rd October. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has been available for pre-order since 6th November with devices available since 13th November.

But as the 18th November has dawned in South Africa there is no word on the iPhone 12 series being available locally.

Calling the iStore Hotline and speaking to a sales agent did present us with a bit more information.

The agent told us that there is no launch date set as yet however we were told that the handsets might be available at the end of the month.

This should be taken with a lump of salt as a sales agent isn’t privy to the information at the top of a supply chain so we may or may not see the iPhone 12 at the end of November. This should also not be taken as an official statement from iStore.

After many attempts to get in touch with iStore directly we were finally able to get an answer but that answer was, “Unfortunately we don’t have a confirmed SA launch date for iPhone 12”.

What makes this all the more bizarre however is that you can pre-order Apple’s new M1 powered MacBooks, the new iPad Air and Watch Series 6 but the iPhone 12 is notably missing.

We guess we’ll just have to keep waiting for news about when the latest iPhone will be available.
