AURA, Vumacam, Uber and TEARS Foundation to host GBV webinar

Ahead of the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, four local organisations will be addressing the scourge of gender based violence in South Africa.

The four organisations here are AURA, Vumacam, Uber and the TEARS Foundation.

Together, the four organisations will host a live webinar on 24th November where they will explore the role technology plays in addressing gender-based violence in South Africa.

“It’s dire,” says AURA chief executive officer Warren Myers, “We need to act now and use what we know best, and, in this webinar, we believe that technology will greatly assist potential victims. We want to look at how we can make security more widely accessible, how it can help the vulnerable and improve the current situation, while addressing the landscape of GBV in South Africa and ensuring we understand it better.”

The webinar will host representatives from each of the organisations namely:

  • Ricky Croock – Chief executive officer at Vumacam
  • Mara Glennie – Founder of TEARS Foundation
  • Unam Mahlato – Senior operations and logistics manager at Uber Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Warren Myers – Chief executive officer at AURA

The event will be free to stream and you can register to watch at this URL.

The presence of the TEARS Foundation is notable as it means Glennie can provide insight into issues the likes of Uber and AURA may not be aware of.

This looks to be a rather interesting webinar and while we understand that “Zoom-fatigue” has become a thing, we highly recommend giving this webinar a watch.
