COVID-19 in South Africa: 19th November

There are growing concerns across the country regarding COVID-19 in South Africa, with a handful of regions seeing a significant rise in the number of daily infections and fatalities as a result of the pandemic.

Unsurprisingly then, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) shows a rise in numbers across the board. This is evident in 2 888 new cases being reported in the past 24 hours, leading to the total number of infections for SA to date being 757 144.

The department also notes that more than 5.18 million tests have been conducted, along with 701 534 recoveries also being recorded. This translates to a recovery rate of 92.6 percent, which is up very slightly from the previous day’s report.

Unfortunately though, 123 new fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa to 20 556.

Of the new 123, the NDoH says the Eastern Cape contributes 35, the Free State with 31, Gauteng has four, KwaZulu-Natal has three, Limpopo with seven, the North West has 31 and the Western Cape with 12.
