This past week there have been growing concerns regarding the increase in new daily infections for COVID-19 in South Africa, especially with the festive season just around the corner.
While murmurs of a higher level of lockdown remain just that for now, the latest reports from the National Department of Health (NDoH) show that current regulations need to be adhered to if we’re to avoid a spike in cases over the holidays.
Looking at the recent numbers, 2 514 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours, with the total number to date now sitting at 759 658.
The report also notes that over 5.21 million tests have been conducted, along with 702 544 recoveries being recorded. The latter means the recovery rate remains steady at 92.6 percent, which was the exact same figure it was at yesterday.
Unfortunately 115 new fatalities have been recorded too, pushing the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in South Africa to 20 671.
Again, the Eastern Cape makes up the largest portion of new fatalities with 43, the Free State has 23, Gauteng with the sae at 23, KwaZulu-Natal with nine, Mpumalanga has two and the Western Cape has 15.
