Which PS5 next-gen exclusive should you play first?

If you pre-ordered the PlayStation 5, you’re new next-gen console should hopefully of been delivered by now, with the PS5 officially launching in South Africa this week.

You’re also likely wanting to get stuck into a next-gen exclusive for the PS5, but these games do not come cheap at roughly R1 200 a pop.

So which one should you play first – Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales or Demon’s Souls?

Well we luckily have all three in review, with our thoughts on Miles Morales already published, so we’re going to weigh in which title offers the best next-gen experience, and which should take priority in terms of what you play.

Starting with Sackboy, and this title is a charming platformer.

Those who remember the Little Big Planet franchise will likely want to get stuck in here, and you won’t be disappointed either, with some solid gameplay and challenging puzzles on offer. The Craftworld created in-game also looks great, but perhaps does not fit into the category of true next-gen gaming.

If you want your first PS5 experience to embody as much of next-gen as possible then, this probably isn’t it. That said, it is still worth visiting at some point though.

Next is Miles Morales, which is the next chapter in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe.

Offering more next-gen elements, especially as the graphics and setting are concerned, Miles Morales offers up a very good teaser of what’s possible and what’s to come for the PS5 in the next year or two.

While all of that is rather promising, the main campaign is quite short compared to the original Spider-Man game, which does make you feel like the price is wholly justified. For a bit extra though, you can get the Remastered version of the previous game which is definitely worth a revisit.

Lastly, Demon’s Souls, which is a game we were both excited about and dreading. This as the original essentially spawned the brutal and punishing soulslike genre on the PS3 console.

For Demon’s Souls, all of those qualities remain in this next-gen version of the game. Visually though, it feels like more than just a Remaster, with some truly breathtaking environments that will leave you distracted, before swiftly being killed by an enemy.

Add to this the quality of life improvements that have been added compared to the original, and the new Demon’s Souls has us anxiously awaiting whatever From Software is working on for the PS5.

If we are choosing one, it has to be Demon’s Souls. More than a simple remaster, it feels like what next-gen should be. Added to this is the fact that it will become all-consuming if you have a particular penchant for punishing gameplay.

That’s why we recommended opting for Demon’s Souls first if you plan to spend your hard earned money on a game for your newly minted PS5.
