COVID-19 in South Africa: 18th November

As we wait to see what will happen to the daily infection rate for COVID-19 in South Africa, and the impact that lowered level 1 regulations and an impending festive season will have, the National Department of Health (NDoH) has released its latest report.

In it, the NDoH confirms that 1 987 new cases have been reported over the past 24 hours, which pushes the total number of infections in the country to date to 754 256.

The department adds that over 5.16 million tests have been conducted so far, with 696 820 recoveries also being reported. The latter results in a recovery rate of 92.4 percent.

Unfortunately, however, 119 new fatalities have been reported too, which is the highest number so far this week. The current number of deaths related to COVID-19 now sits at 20 433.

Of the new 119, the NDoH says that the Eastern Cape accounts for 36, the Free State with 22, Gauteng has 42, KwaZulu-Natal with seven, Mpumalanga has one and the Western Cape contributes 11.
