“Remember, Remember, the 5th of November,” holds a bit more weight today as we await the results of the US Presidential elections, as well as it being the first day that the country’s Matric students will be writing exams during a pandemic. Speaking of which, the National Department of Health (NDoH) has released its latest figures for COVID-19 in South Africa.
To that end the department confirms that 1 712 new cases for the virus have been recorded over the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s total to date to 730 548.
There have also been more than 4.89 million tests that have been conducted to date, along with the NDoH reporting that 660 185 recoveries have been recorded. Unsurprisingly, this translates to a recovery rate of 90 percent, which still shows no signs of moving, staying fixed at that rate for some time now.
Unfortunately 46 new fatalities have been recorded too, pushing the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 to 19 585. Of the new 46, the NDoH says 24 are from the Eastern Cape, nine from Gauteng, three from the Free State, five from KwaZulu-Natal, one from the Northern Cape and four from the Western Cape.
The full breakdown of COVID-19 in South Africa is as follows:
