Steam’s Autumn Sale is here to fight for your Black Friday money

If your attention – and wallet – wasn’t split enough for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Steam has thrown its hat into the ring with the 2020 edition of Autumn Sale.

Live right now until 1st December, the Autumn Sale looks like a rather bog standard affair for the platform.

With the limited-time sales dead for years now, our advice for shopping remains the same: check your wishlist and buy whatever has the best discount.

Aside from just buying games there is more to do as the sale coincides with the 5th annual Steam awards.

“It is time again to convene the Steam Award Selection Committee, whose sole task is to nominate the best and brightest of the year. This esteemed committee is composed of those most qualified to judge: you! You must determine who elevated the medium of games, by metrics as unique as the field of contenders. To that end, we present a few new categories by which to measure greatness. The choice is yours – now go forth and nominate!” reads the description for the event.

Like the last entries in this series to participate you just need to go to the store page of a game released this year and nominate it for one of the following 10 categories:

  • Game of the year
  • VR game of the year
  • Labor of love
  • Better with friends
  • Outstanding visual style
  • Most innovative gameplay
  • Best game you suck at
  • Best soundtrack
  • Outstanding story-rich game
  • Sit back and relax

Voting for the awards has opened already and will be announced on 3rd January 2021.

By completing four tasks you can also earn a Steam badge. Those tasks are – nominating one game, nominating a game in each category, play a game you’ve nominated and review / update your review for a game you’ve nominated.

The final component shoppers need to be aware of for this sale is the Steam Points Shop. As we explained when this launched in June, the Points Shop is a simple premise where you spend money and earn points to use on visual items applicable throughout Steam.

For this new sale various Autumn-themed items have been added to the shop.

For those wondering the Autumn Sale key art has been done by artist Slawek Fedorczuk. For recent sales Steam has done a great job shinning a spotlight on the people who give it a unique look and feel, so we’re happy to see that happening again here.
