Acer refreshes Predator Triton & Helios notebooks with Intel 11th Gen H series

Acer held one of its annual Global Press Conferences (GPC) earlier today and as has been the case in previous years, showcased some refreshed gaming notebooks as part of its Predator lineup.

It is something that a number of companies did earlier in the month after Intel unveiled its 11th Gen H series processors, so Acer joins the rest of the pack, debuting new iterations of Triton and Helios notebook.

Starting with the Helios 500 (pictured in header), it can be specced with up to an overclockable 11th Gen Intel Core i9 processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU and 64 GB of DDR4 RAM. Added to this is either a pair of PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 or one SATA HDD, although precise storage options have not been disclosed.

The array of speccable options don’t stop there, as up to a 4K Mini LED 120 Hz display powered by AUO AmLED is available for the 17.3″ display, although that may be limited to region for now.

Acer has also detailed a full suite of cooling solutions for the new Helios 500, including PowerGem, which is custom-engineered and made from a metal-alloy polymer that sits on top of the CPU to distribute the heat it generates throughout the device. There are fifth generation AeroBlade 3D Fans too, to redirect airflow to critical components and assist performance during longer gaming sessions.

As for the Triton 500 SE, the same 11th Gen i9 H series processor is available, but not the overclockable variant. If you are wondering what the SE stands for, it’s “special edition” with Acer stating that this latest Triton is designed to handle AA titles and normal nine to five work.

Looking at the other internal component options, up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU and 64 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM is available to spec.

Added to this up to 4 TB of high speed PCIe Gen4 storage, 12 hours of battery life, support for Wi-Fi 6E and Thunderbolt 4. A handful of display options are available, with a 165 Hz WQXGA LCD display flavour topping things out. The same AeroBlade 3D Fan is present in the Trition, but not the new PowerGem tech, although five dedicated heat pipes for the CPU and GPU are present.

Like all of the new hardware showcased today by Acer, there is no confirmation on when SA will be getting the new Predator notebooks or indeed how much they will cost. That said, both are expected to land in EMEA in July, with the Helios 500 starting at €2 499 (~R41 901) and the Triton 500 SE starting at €1 999 (~R33 524).
