Acer’s new quartet of Chromebooks includes a 17″ notebook

Acer is currently wrapping up its latest Global Press Conference, showcasing the latest hardware it plans to launch across the globe in coming months. Among the number of new notebooks are four fresh Chromebook offerings, with a world-first (according to Acer) 17″ model bing added to the mix.

The Acer Chromebook 317 as it has been unimaginatively named, is being billed as the “multitasking powerhouse” within the Taiwanese company’s new Chromebook lineup. As such, it looks more geared towards the enterprise market than the education one.

“Since the introduction of Chromebooks 10 years ago, Acer has been a leader in expanding form factors in innovative ways that encourage our users to create, learn, and do more,” notes James Lin, general manager for Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer.

“Today, we hit another milestone by being the first Chromebook provider to introduce a 17.3-inch model, the ideal size for users working and learning from home,” he adds.

Acer says the new generous 17.3″ display on the 317 is FullHD along with featuring an anti-glare coating. Added to this are narrow bezels, as well as an option to add a webcam if needed for videoconferencing while working from home.

Another optional element is the backlit keyboard, with Acer also making mentioned of the integrated numeric keypad that supports 10-key input, specially designed for those who will be doing a lot of number crunching and data capturing with this device.

On the silicon side of things, only Intel Celeron processors are made available, but there is up to 10 hours of battery life and support for WiFi 6, as well as two full-function USB 3.2 Type-C ports.

Like many of the devices announced today, no word on local availability and pricing has been confirmed yet. That said, the Chromebook 317 is expected in the EMEA region in June, with a recommended €399 (~R6 685) price tag.
