Astronaut, Minecraft dev to appear at LEGO CON

Announced last week LEGO CON is a livestream convention based on the building toy company that will bridge the gap between the physical bricks and the new digital event ecosystem that has sprung up during the pandemic, and now we know about some guests who will be in attendance.

Astronaut Mike Massimino is the one we’re most excited about. LEGO’s City line of toys usually deals with mundane things such as construction, airports and firefighting as per the name, but it will sometimes include elements of space travel as LEGO minifigures go out into the stars.

This is why Massimino is connected to the LEGO City line in the announcement image revealed. The Space subtheme for City hasn’t had a new set in a while so Massimino’s interview at LEGO CON may also reveal some new sets for this.

LEGO has been making sets based on Minecraft since 2013 and it shows no sign of stopping, so it’s fitting that someone from developer Mojang will be in attendance too. Lydia Winters is the “Chief Storyteller” at Mojang and will be at LEGO CON for a question and answer (Q&A) session.

The rest of the early reveals for the event include a new Star Wars set and a focus on three LEGO themes: Super Mario, Harry Potter and Technic.

The Luigi version of the LEGO Super Mario set was released recently so this will likely be a showcase of products that are already available.

LEGO CON 2021, the first event of its kind, will take place on 26th June at 18:00 local time. It will not be streamed on Twitch or YouTube, but exclusively on a dedicated site available here.

The site has built-in Q&A functionality which will be used for the Winters / Minecraft segment as well as other parts of the 90 minute show.
