Eskom announces Stage 2 loadshedding will commence at 17:00 on Tuesday

With Eskom no nearer to fixing it’s supply woes, we were expecting news of loadshedding a bit earlier today, but the utility has once again waited until the 11th hour.

As such, Stage 2 loadshedding will commence at 17:00 on Tuesday and run through until 22:00.

Eskom points to two generating units at Kusile and Majuba power stations not returning to service as the reason for loadshedding being implemented. Looking at the 15 498MW of capacity unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns and 1 273MW of capacity unavailable due to maintenance however, we suspect there are more issues than just two power stations.

“The likelihood of loadshedding is high for the rest of the week as the power system remains constrained and vulnerable and Eskom will communicate promptly should there be any changes,” Eskom wrote.

As always, we advise checking out the Eskom loadshedding site and Eskomsepush on mobile to keep up to date with what times your area will be affected and when to charge necessary devices for the coming week.

It’s looking like a cold and dark week for South Africans.
