Ever since the pandemic started it has become the norm for companies to host events and conventions online as livestream events with LEGO the latest to jump on the bandwagon with something called LEGO CON.

The inaugural LEGO CON will take place on 26th June at 18:00 local time. Interestingly it will not be streamed on the usual places like Twitch or YouTube, but on this dedicated website.

From the trailer below we also learn that the event is being made by the same people behind the LEGO Masters TV show. The trailer also promises a lot of content that will be squeezed into 90 minutes.

The aforementioned site also gives us some more details about what we can expect.

“LEGO CON is a virtual convention for LEGO fans; but also, much more than that. Join us for an afternoon of live entertainment and be the first to know about what’s new with us as we unveil new sets and take you behind-the-scenes at LEGO House. Connect with your friends, special guests and each other for a 90-minute action-packed line-up,” reads the official description.

There will also be some interactive elements to the show with a voting system said to make an appearance that will allow the audience to choose which sets will be made during the livestream. You can already see that in action as there’s a poll on the site right now that asks visitors how they first heard about the event. There are 1 301 votes at the time of writing which is rather a lot considering that the announcement of LEGO CON was made just a few minutes ago at the time of writing.

Over the past few years LEGO has done a lot to broaden its appeal. From adult sets based on nostalgic franchises to evergreen popular shows and even content that supports the LGBTQIA+ community. We have to wonder if a livestream event like this is an effort to continue this wider approach to the market.
