Loadshedding Stage 2 returns at 16:00 on Tuesday

Once again, South Africans will have to endure a long night without electricity thanks to loadshedding.

It might be a new month but the power woes at Eskom persist and once again the utility will be implementing loadshedding.

“Due to further breakdowns of generating units at Kriel, Arnot, Majuba and Tutuka Power Stations over the past 24 hours, as well as delays in returning units to service at Duvha and Tutuka Power Stations, Eskom regrets to inform the public that Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented starting at 16:00 this afternoon until 05:00 tomorrow morning,” Eskom wrote in a statement.

The utility added that it will also use loadshedding to replenish its emergency reserves that it used up to avoid loadshedding last week.

Look at capacity, things look grim for Eskom. Unplanned outages mean 15 360MW of capacity is unavailable while maintenance means that 1 580MW of capacity is unavailable.

While some units are expected to return to service by this evening, we don’t suspect that loadshedding will be suspended unless there is a drastic change in the amount of capacity which is available.

As always, we suggest downloading the EskomSePush app on iOS or Android in order to stay up to date with loadshedding schedules in your area.
