XCOM 2 arrives on Android next month

In October 2020 it was announced that the XCOM 2 Collection would be coming to iOS with Android planned for 2021. Now that we’re getting deeper into this year we finally have an update with the game coming to Android next month on 13th July.

As a reminder the Collection is the full XCOM 2 experience with all the DLC including the transformative War of the Chosen expansion.

As with the iOS release this is a premium game you will need to pay up front to access with no microtransactions or adverts. No price is listed right now for Android but we assume it will be similar to the £23.99 / $24.99 / €27.99 cost on iOS. Right now that should put the game in the ~R476 range if we’re looking at the tax-inclusive UK price after conversion.

The quality of the port will depend to a degree on the device it’s being run on but, at least on iOS, things seem overall good. XCOM 2 Collection on iOS currently has a 4.1 rating (out of five) from 285 reviews.

Optimisation patches were released on iOS as recently as May of this year so hopefully Android will be the same.

As for the quality of the game itself, it’s amazing. You can see our review of the PC / console version at launch here where it walked away with a recommendation. If you’ve been looking for an extremely solid, challenging experience on the go, this will do it.

As for the hardware you will need to run the XCOM 2 Collection on Android a minimum of 8.5 gigabytes of free space is needed with 17 gigabytes recommended to prevent any storage issues.

Android 9 or later is recommended by port developer Feral Interactive which has provided a list of supported devices:

• ASUS ROG Phone II
• Google Pixel 3 / 3XL / 4 / 4XL
• HTC U12+
• OnePlus 6T / 7 / 8 / 8T
• Samsung Galaxy S9 / S10 / S10+ / S10e / S20 / S21
• Samsung Galaxy Note9 / Note10 / Note10+ / Note20 5G
• Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 / S7
• Sony Xperia 1 / XZ2 Compact
• Vivo NEX S
• Xiaomi Mi 9
• Xiaomi Pocophone F1

We’re not sure if similarly specced phones not on this list will be supported at this stage but pre-registration for the game is now available on the Google Play Store.
